By Teens, For Teens

Teens—come through! Meet up with BkM Teens, the Brooklyn Museum’s staff of paid teen interns, at free events created by and for people ages 14–19. Head to the Museum year-round for art, activism, and good times. For the most up-to-date information, follow us on Instagram and join our email list.

Teen Nights
Art and art-making, music, performances, workshops, raffles, snacks, and more: Inspired by our special exhibitions and designed by the Teen Night Planning Committee, Teen Nights are free, large-scale events grounded in art and activism. Each June, celebrate all things Pride with our annual LGBTQ+ Teen Night, planned by InterseXtions: Gender & Sexuality interns.

Museums demystified
Real talk: Museums can look and feel unwelcoming to young people. Over the years, BkM Teens have created resources to make looking at art, talking about art, and being in museums more accessible. Check them out:

  • BkM Teens @ Home (2020): videos about artworks in our collection and themes relevant to our lives, created by our Museum Apprentices. Watch videos for ages 14+, or share videos for ages 4–8 with family and friends.
  • BKM Digital Artizens (2017): a blog breaking down complex ideas about feminism and feminist art.
  • Teen Guide to Art (2007) and Teen Guide to Feminist Art (2011): PDFs that explain things you see on museum walls, such as labels and accession numbers, and demonstrate “close looking” using our collection.
